WHAT ARE THE SECRETS OF TAROT?

Tarot is a word that carries many secrets and mysteries that many tried to solve and explain.
No one knows the true origin of the “Tarot”. Some believe that it is a Pharaonic word meaning the royal road, which is the truth’s closest origin.
Pharaonic Egypt’s priests were writing down all the secrets of their civilization around the year 1000 BC. Those papers reached Europe and England during King Henry IV’s reign.
Tarot is a set of 78 sheets; each represents an aspect of a person’s experiences in the world around them and their connection and interaction with the environment. Each sheet carries a symbolic image and a number. The Tarot cards are divided into two groups, the Minor Arcana comprising 56 cards and the Major Arcana containing 22 cards.

TAROT DE MARSEILLE.

Tarot of Marseille is one of the standard patterns for the design of tarot cards. It is a pattern from which many subsequent tarot decks derive. The Tarot deck was probably invented in northern Italy in the 15th century and introduced into southern France when the French conquered Milan and Piedmont in 1499.
The 78-card version of the game of Tarot survived in France and Switzerland. When the game was reintroduced into northern Italy, the cards’ Marseilles designs were reintroduced with it. All Italian-suited tarot decks outside of Italy are descended from the Milan-Marseilles type except some early French and Belgian packs that show mixed influence from the Bolognese tarot. The earliest surviving cards of the Marseilles pattern were produced by Jean Noblet of Paris around 1650.

The name Tarot de Marseille was coined as late as 1856 by the French card historian Romain Merlin and was popularized by French cartomancers Eliphas Levi, Gérard Encausse, and Paul Marteau, who used this collective name to refer to a variety of closely related designs that were being made in the city of Marseilles in the south of France.
Like other Tarot decks, the Tarot de Marseille contains fifty-six cards in the four standards suits.
There was an archaic practice of ranking the cards 10 to Ace for the suit of cups and coins in line with all other tarot games outside of Sicily.

HISTORY.

All cards were initially printed from woodcuts and coloured. Tarot was a trendy card game throughout France during the 16th and early 17th century but later fell into obscurity except for eastern France and Switzerland. From France and Switzerland, the game spread north to Sweden and east to Russia starting from the middle of the 18th century, making it one of the most popular card games of that era until being overtaken by Whist in the 19th century.
